Dunedin Hospital is the tertiary Hospital for the Southern DHB (including Dunedin Hospital) we have almost 400 beds and provide care for a population of approximately 180,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand. Our child population is 50,000. Our Level 3 NICU Unit and paediatric ward have recently been refurbished and boasts a family and staff friendly environment to work in.
Joining our existing team of Paediatricians, you will assist in providing a comprehensive range of services to the Children and Youth of Dunedin and the wider Southern DHB region.
Service duties will include Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) duties (including retrievals) &/or Paediatric Inpatient ward and outpatient clinics. These will be conducted as part of a shared roster with other colleagues. You would be expected to undertake a full share of the on-call roster with other members of the team.
Other clinical duties include participation in team ward rounds & non-clinical duties including quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.
Outside of work, you’ll find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its affordable living, great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. The town centre is compact but has plenty of energy, which is to be expected with it being a University town. This sustains some great activities such as theatre, live-music and a diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Central Otago is a notable holiday destination and many outdoor recreation opportunities are easily accessible from Dunedin.
To be considered for this role you must already hold a Vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). You will need to be a New Zealand Medical Council registered Neonatologist or a Paediatrician with experience in neonatology or have Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent qualification, enabling specialist (locum tenens specialist registration) with the MCNZ, allowing you to be able to start in this role in the required timeframe.
