Specialist Intensive Care with Anaesthesia Sub-Specialty

Dunedin Hospital

Full time, Permanent

Southern District Health Board

We have been busy refurbishing our ICU at Dunedin Hospital, and are on the very brink of opening the doors to our patients and families. We have opportunities for Specialist Intensivists single-specialty and dual trained intensivists. Those dual trained in medical specialties, general medicine, anaesthesia and ED are all welcome to apply.

The new ICU and HDU’s are physically linked, on the same floor, so we’ve increased bed numbers and the ability for our team to work across the two units easily. Dunedin Hospital has almost 400 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 350,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand.

Allocation of time for clinical duties and patient care is 50% of the working week.Intensive Care Unit (ICU) duties will be conducted as part of a shared roster with twelve other colleagues in intensive care medicine. Additionally, colleagues from emergency medicine and anaesthesia currently participate in the weekend aero-medical retrieval roster. You would be expected to provide a mixture of cover for ICU, retrieval services, HDU and outreach services. We will negotiate the FTE you have with our Anaesthesia Service, as you will expected to undertake a full share of the Intensive Care on-call roster with other members of the team. Other duties include participation in team ward rounds, quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.

Outside of work, you’ll find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. The town centre is compact but has plenty of energy, which is to be expected with it being a student-town. This sustains some great activities such as theatre, live-music and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, with all of its great holiday spots and outdoor recreation opportunities is also easily accessible from Dunedin. To be considered for these roles, it is essential that you hold a Post Graduate in Intensive Care Medicine, and Medicine/surgery (CICM or equivalent), It is desirable that you have additional training and fellowship in Anaesthesiology. We will be considering all applications individually on receipt.

Closing Date: open until a suitable candidate is identified
