Our Cancer Psychological and Social Work Support team here at Southland Hospital is looking for an experienced Psychologist to join our multi-disciplinary team to provide a wide range of psychological services. 


This role is part of an initiative to improve access to psychological and social support services for adults with cancer. It is a rare and very exciting opportunity to be part of the team that develops and sets up the Psychological and Social Support team as per MOH specifications and guidelines and goals and philosophies of the Southern Cancer Network.


The Psychologist will work closely with our clients, their family and whanau providing advanced level assessment, intervention and evaluation of their health related difficulties as well as providing clinical leadership for other staff in the region. As part of the role you will also work closely with other health professionals, organisations and stakeholders, including primary care practitioners and non-government organisations who have a supportive care function locally and regionally.


Candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced in working with complex needs clients and able to demonstrate excellent assessment, formulation, treatment planning and therapy skills.  You will be a confident and effective communicator, bring a flexible approach with excellent organisational skills, be passionate about your work and hold an unwavering belief in people’s resilience in face of often unfavourable life crisis. You will also be a strong supportive team player and be proactive in the multidisciplinary team.  You also will be required to travel to provide psychological practice in the wider region.


Candidates will have a Doctoral or Master’s degree plus a Diploma of Clinical Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology or equivalent and ideally will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience. You will need to be a registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board, as well as hold a current APC.
