As partners in health research, the Southern District Health Board and the University of Otago's Dunedin School of Medicine, work together to provide an environment conducive to research while maintaining public safety, financial, legal and ethical accountability, and consideration of cultural beliefs.
The Dunedin School of Medicine has a strong research tradition, and many researchers are international leaders in their areas. Dunedin Hospital enjoys international standing as a research hospital.
The Southern DHB and the Dunedin School of Medicine have combined to establish a Health Research Office, which facilitates research by staff of both organisations. Its activities are underpinned by a joint research committee called the Research Advisory Group. The RAG promotes, monitors and approves the arrangements for undertaking research and to ensure patient safety in research. For further information, advice or assistance in the DSM or Southern DHB regarding research and research funding, contact the Health Research Office.
