Breast and Cervical Screening

Health promotion of screening programmes ensures that women who can benefit from screening are informed and empowered to take advantage of those benefits. Both programmes have a well women focus and acknowledge both the benefits and limitations associated with participation in screening programmes.

The Breast Screening Programme:

  • Provides comprehensive information about the purpose of breast screening
  • Encourages informed participation in BreastScreen Aotearoa  

 The Cervical Screening Programme:

  • Encourages informed participation by providing information
  • Focuses’ on equitable access to services

Women enrolled in the programme will be registered with consent on a national registry and be able to access their own information includes screening tests, smear takers, specialists and laboratories.
