Statement attributable to Dr Brad Strong, Medical Director, Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disabilities Directorate, Southern DHB:

We continue to support police and LandSAR teams searching for Gordon McLean, who left Wakari Hospital on Thursday.

Mr McLean, 63, is a patient in a rehabilitation unit located in Helensburgh House. He is frail and in need of medical support, and we're very concerned for his safety and well-being.

As with any serious issue, we will be reviewing the circumstances surrounding this matter.

Due to patient privacy, we cannot provide any further details about Mr McLean or his care at this time.

We would like to thank the police, LandSAR and the dozens of volunteers who have helped with the search over the past few days and we ask the public to support these efforts by checking their own properties, vehicles and surrounding areas for any indication that Mr McLean has been there.
