New Gastroenterology facility is on the way
Work is underway on the new Gastroenterology facility at Dunedin Hospital.
The new 8th floor facility will transform the experience of the patient, create a better working and teaching environment and most importantly, future-proof capacity to allow Southern DHB to undertake the recently announced roll-out of the population bowel screening.
The new unit will have two endoscopy rooms - one more than previously available - and dedicated admission, recovery and sterilising areas.
The Gastroenterology unit is temporarily based on the hospital's 5th floor, in the space previously occupied by the Neonatal ICU, while the 8th floor unit is rebuilt.
The new Gastroenterology facility is one of the interim redevelopment projects being undertaken by Southern DHB to best meet the needs of staff, patients and their families while Dunedin’s new hospital is developed.
