Southland DHB Health Sciences Library

The Southern DHB Health Science Library supports the clinical care, management, health promotion, education and research work of Southland DHB staff, Southland health professionals and health science students based at Southland Hospital. The library is proactive in encouraging the use of evidence-based and current information for work and study, and sees professional learning as life-long activity.

Location:
The Library is situated in the Southland Hospital Community Services Building (CSB) adjacent to the CSB Lecture Theatre and Break-Out Space. The CSB public entrance is near the entry to the main hospital carpark off of Kew Road. All visitors to the building should report to CSB Reception. See hospital campus map.

Opening Hours:
The library is open and staffed from 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, except on public holidays. 24/7 access is available to Southern DHB staff on application to the Librarian. The library is Reference Only when library staff are not on duty.

All visitors should call at the Library Help Desk on their first visit. Library membership is needed before resources can be borrowed and library staff will want to introduce you to our service and welcome you as a library user.

Resources:
The collection covers medicine, nursing, allied health, psychology, and management. We have online and hardcopy books and journals. The library subscribes to a wide range of clinical literature databases - some with full text.

A photocopier, scanners, PCs with DVD drives and USB ports, study spaces, comfortable chairs, and tea and coffee are all available because it is our intention to provide an environment for our users that is conducive to quiet study, with the resources needed close by.

We satisfy requests for resources not held in the Southland library by purchase, or via inter-library loan using various services within New Zealand or overseas. It is very rare for us not to be able to satisfy a request, so despite our location we can give you access to the world's health science literature.
